8th Grade Language Arts
Hello! Welcome to my website. My name is Mr. Cunningham and I am absolutely thrilled to be your child's English Language Arts teacher.
My goal this year is to motivate students through respect and a curriculum that is challenging and relevant to students' lives. I find the image for this website appropriate--I want to bring the light of learning to my students and provide doorways to the outside world.
I will keep a weekly schedule for Language Arts and Advanced Language Arts, under the "Weekly Lesson Plans" link. Lesson plans will outline the daily schedule, with the learning objectives. You will notice that the schedule for both Language Arts and Advanced is identical. I believe in providing quality educational opportunities for ALL of my students. Even though the materials are the same, the depth of knowledge students will be using varies for each class. Every student is provided with an activity that matches their need and readiness. Awesome!
A little bit about me: This is my 6th year of teaching Language Arts at DVMS. I have done a little of everything, and I feel that I have the knowledge and expertise to reach your child. This year, I am lucky to be the Language Arts Mentor teacher; I get to lead my team in providing even better educational opportunities for all students across the campus. Exciting! I just earned my Master's degree in secondary education, with a focus on literacy instruction. I have been married for five years, and my wife and I love hanging out with each other and our dog Eric. I love to read and write, learn about all things (especially teaching), skateboard, read and write, and read and write. Did I mention that I like to read and write?
Please feel free to contact me anytime, and I will get back as soon as possible. I look forward to having an amazing year!
